More About Me and My Journey

My name is Amy B. and I am grateful to be able to offer my gifts and services to others through my coaching practice. As someone with an insatiable curiosity for understanding myself, others and the deeper layers of meaning in all things, I have always been drawn to the mystical and to things that peeled away the layers to see what was underneath. I have a background in psychology, healing and the arts and am now a certified Dream Coach®, intuitive life coach and energy worker with knowledge, skills and insights from many other modalities that I am able to draw from in my work. Highlighting for you some key things about my journey so you can better understand how I came to be where I am now. Feel free to read on if you like!

  • I was a curious, creative and sensitive child. Apparently much more sensitive than most, I was the sponge in my family, the one who soaked in all of the energy flying around. The youngest of three, born into a loud and chaotic family, without access to silence or space that was just mine. My energy field was so porous, I didn’t realize at the time.

  • My path began with illness. I was sick with upper respiratory issues, severe allergies, chronic headaches, viruses and infections and fatigued a lot during my childhood and teen years. I was later diagnosed with fibromyalgia, but with the lifestyle, awareness and practices I have now, I no longer identify as having. While illness certainly took a toll on me and my body, I realize now the important role it served in helping me to try to have my needs met, in particular my need for quiet alone time, and my need to be comforted and cared for.

  • I grew up not having access to the tools and resources we have now. It was before the internet existed and before Elaine Aron did her research and coined the term HSP.

  • My life experiences led me down the path of studying healing from a holistic perspective that includes the mind, energy body, physical body, spirit, emotions and one’s relationship to oneself and the world around them. Through lots of health challenges and illness and other life experiences, I came to realize that being able to tune in and listen to my body is essential to my health and well being as an Empath and HSP, and I am grateful to have learned many practices that help me to do so.

  • As a creative and someone sensitive to subtle energy, I love to savor life through my senses. My love of the arts, music, soft and comforting fabrics and bedding, somatic practices, dance and movement have been a source of deep nourishment for me.

  • Writing poetry has also been an important part of my path since my teen years. I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from GWU, studied abroad in Holland my junior year, and continued to write poetry regularly throughout my teens and twenties. Some years after I graduated, I went on to study in the Transformative Language Arts IMA program at Goddard College, where I focused on ways that poetry could be used as a tool for self expression, empowerment, healing and transformation.

  • I have a strong interest in the healing power of plant medicines and psychedelics, healing trauma, somatic healing practices, creative practices and shadow work. Some practices I enjoy include Continuum, Interplay, chanting and kirtan and various styles of Yoga, Tai Chi, Qigong, Sound Healing and Meditation.

  • I also enjoy exploring personality and one’s understanding of oneself through Astrology, the Enneagram and MBTI especially. For those curious, I am a Sag sun, Virgo moon, Cap rising, 7 Enneatype and an ENFP with pretty strong I leanings especially since the pandemic. As an HSP I sometimes joke that my personality is an extrovert but my soul is an introvert, and that my soul loves the mountains but my personality loves the city.

  • A constant seeker, I am someone who loves to learn and to grow. Of the many workshops, community events, and trainings that I’ve attended over the years, there are a few key events that I wanted to highlight below in chronological order:

    • In 2008 I attended Burning Man for the first time and there I was able to tap into some of my shamanic gifts and offer some of my intuitive healing work, returning again in 2013 to camp with Chakralicious and to offer energy and healing work again there. Since that first experience, I have continued to stay active in the local community, participating in regional events every year, aside from during the pandemic, on the East Coast where I live.

    • In 2009 I had the opportunity to study with Anodea Judith for a week intensive focusing on the body, psychology and the chakras.

    • That training with Anodea led me to discover the New Culture community through a fellow attendee, where I met so many wonderful people who are now dear friends. Through the annual summer camp and other events I’ve attended over the last ten plus years, I have been able to add so many tools to my toolkit, including my training as a ZEGG Forum Facilitator. There I was also able to deepen my understanding of myself as an HSP and an empath and how to better communicate my needs with others.

    • In 2012 I participated in a life coaching training offered by Marcia Wieder and became a certified Dream Coach®. I was drawn to this program because it was not focused only on goal setting and it allows for creativity and self-exploration while also offering a wonderful workbook and template to give some structure and a place for reflection. This program allows me to add and adapt to support the unique needs and desires of each client.

    • In January 2020 I attended a Trauma Sensitive Restorative Yoga training. I had been attending a lot of sound healing, restorative yoga and yin yoga classes prior to the pandemic and was inspired to go deeper into the practice.

    • During the pandemic I was delighted to add other online trainings and workshops to my tool kit including:

      • Secrets of InterPlay for Helping Professionals

      • Muscle Testing, Instant Miracle Coach, Peace Process and Ultra High Frequency Master with Christian Mickelsen

      • The Wisdom of Trauma Film and Talks Series 1 & 2

      • Returning to Wholeness: A Guide to Understanding and Integrating Trauma, course with Dr. Gabor Mate

      • The Empath’s Survival Guide Online Course with Dr. Judith Orloff

      • The Eden Method course on The Five Elements, a personality and health system based on Chinese Medicine and the energy meridians. The course was taught by Donna Eden, and her daughters, whose Energy Medicine practices I have been using as part of my practice for many years.
